A Chicago (ish) art tumblog by me, Claudine Ise. I'm an art writer and a regular contributor to badatsports.com, art:21 blog, Artforum.com, and Chicago Magazine's Guide section. This is a visual notebook of the articles, images, videos and other gunk that's clogging my brain at the moment....some of it fodder for the larger stuff I am, have been, or will be writing about.
RIP: Poly Styrene (born Marianne Joan Elliott-Said), iconic frontwoman for pioneering punk rock band X-Ray Spex and acclaimed “archetype for the modern-day feminist punk,” passed away yesterday from breast cancer. She was 53.
From the singer’s official Twitter feed: “We can confirm that the beautiful Poly Styrene, who has been a true fighter, won her battle on Monday evening to go to higher places.”
